Orenda is proud to be one of the top float spas in Hobart. Here’s everything you need to know if you are new to float therapy or if floating is new to you.

What Is Float Therapy?

Floating therapy is a therapeutic technique known and used worldwide. The water contains hundreds of kilos of Epsom salt that allows you to float upon clean, body-temperature water, in an environment with subtle light, sound, movement, and distraction.

What To Expect?

The benefits of floating are unique to you, so we advise that you keep your mind open to welcome your individual healing experience. Your body knows what it needs, so you may have a different experience from one float session to the next.

Before you get to the float pod you will take a quick rinse in our spa shower. No need to bring toiletries with you as we have everything you need, including a hairdryer and hair and skincare products.

For the ultimate sensation of being one with the water we suggest entering the pod naked, but you are welcome to wear swimwear.

You can choose to wear earplugs and have a completely dark room for full sensory deprivation, or we can dim the lights and play soothing music.

The pod is closed during your float session, but for your comfort and peace of mind we provide a neck water noodle, spray bottle to mist your face, and there is a built-in emergency button if you need to exit the pod early.

You will know the treatment has come to an end as music will start to play or it will get a bit louder—and the pod will gently begin to drain.

Afterwards, you can take your time while you shower, dry your hair, and enjoy water or herbal tea. Many of our clients add on other treatments for a mini spa day, such as a massage or facial. Float first, then enjoy additional treatments.

Are There Any Side Effects To Floating?

For hygienic purposes, you may not enter the pod if you are menstruating or have any open cuts, sores, or abrasions. Although Epsom salt is antibacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-viral, the pod is cleaned after each use, the Epsom salt is filtered, and we replace the Epsom salt every 3 months—which is significantly sooner than most local spas.

On rare occasion clients may feel nausea during or after their treatment. This is typically a detox response to your body releasing the stress held in your stomach. Although uncomfortable in the moment, this release is ultimately beneficial.

Press the alarm to let your Float Consultant know if you feel nauseous as you will need to exit the pod. Again, nausea is extremely rare.

The only other side effect other than the benefits mentioned above is that your skin will feel soft and silky smooth afterwards.
